Every person at Manzana has a OneDrive account that provides online storage. In order to better secure your documents from loss or corruption, it's advised to have your Windows Documents folder default to be located online at OneDrive. This is a seamless change that you won't notice, but it will save all of your documents in that folder to OneDrive. There you can be sure to access your documents from anywhere without needing your laptop. And if your laptop malfunctions, there won't be any need to "save" your documents from a compromised hard drive.
1. First, review the current file structure of your computer. Find the pinned folder Icon on your task bar and click it.
2. This will open a window that looks like the below. Note the sections on the left: Quick Access, OneDrive - Agrial, This PC and Network. We will concern ourselves with the two middle ones: OneDrive & This PC. Notice the Documents folder under This PC.
3. To see if your Documents folder is set to save to OneDrive or your Computer, right click the Documents folder located under This PC. This pops up the Properties window. Click the Location Tab. If the path is like the below (C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents), then it is currently set to save documents to your computer's hard drive.
4. To change this to save to OneDrive instead, first, create another folder called "Documents" under the OneDrive - Agrial folder: select the OneDrive - Agrial icon on the left and then click "New Folder" from the top ribbon menu. It will be called "New folder." Right click on it or uses the ribbon menu above to rename it to "Documents."
5. Now you have another Documents folder, but it's in OneDrive.
6. Next, go to the Documents folder under This PC. Right click it, select the Location tab and click, "Move..."
7. This will pop up a "Select Destination" folder. Click on the Documents folder under OneDrive - Agrial. Then click "Select Folder" on the bottom right.
8. This will change the path to your Documents location from your PC to OneDrive (in the cloud). Click Apply.
9. You'll now have 2 Documents folders (one in This PC and one in OneDrive - Agrial); but, they will be filled with the exact same documents. The Documents folder on your PC will now become a link to the Documents folder in OneDrive. You can still access all your documents from the same folder you used to, but now it points to the cloud. Below are two side-by-side windows illustrating this.
10. You can follow this same procedure for your Downloads folder (where everything goes when you click "Download" anywhere) or other folders under This PC.
